Competition Called ON at the Corona Saquarema Pro Presented by Banco do Brasil

PRAIA DE ITAÚNA, Saquarema, Brazil (Tuesday, October 15, 2024) - The World Surf League (WSL) Corona Saquarema Pro presented by Banco do Brasil Stop No. 6 on the 2024 Challenger Series has been called ON at Praia de Itaúna with waves in the 3-4 foot range and light winds. The day will begin with completion of Heats 5-8 of the men’s Round of 32. That will be followed by the women’s Round of 16 and then the men’s Round of 16.

The Corona Saquarema Pro presented by Banco do Brasil wildcard Nacho Gundesen (ARG) will be the first in the water and will face Jordan Lawler (AUS), Cauã Costa (BRA) and Joel Vaughan (AUS) in what will have significant ramifications in the rankings. They will be followed in Heat 6 by Samuel Pupo (BRA), Hiroto Ohhara (JPN), Edgard Groggia (BRA) and Winter Vincent (AUS). Every heat will have an impact on the rankings and potential qualification scenarios.

For the women, Heat 1 of the Round of 16 will see Teresa Bonvalot (POR) face up against Nora Liotta (HAW). They will be followed in Heat 2 with Yolanda Hopkins (POR) taking on Challenger Series rankings leader Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS).
