Most boards today are made from super polluting materials: polyurethane or polystyrene foams, the use of fiberglass and resin that release large amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases in the atmosphere, and even solvent which is carcinogenic. Furthermore, many of these boards end up in landfills, causing further damage to the environment.
It is Crazy to think that because surfing is It's a sport that brings us closer to nature and makes us look closely at the fact that we need to take care of our planet, isn't it? Really? Nowadays There are some more sustainable material alternatives: there are cork boards, cigarette butt boards, PET bottles, lamination with recycled fiberglass and resin. plant-based.
Some raw material alternatives:
1. Agave
A less polluting initiative is Use agave as raw material, a species of invasive plant found on the Brazilian coast. Agave, known for being the raw material for tequila, is known for being the raw material for tequila. It is notable for its strength, lightness and flexibility, ideal for creating durable and responsive boards.
The plant grows quickly and requires less water compared to other materials. Harvesting agave for the production of boards can be done in a sustainable way, promoting the natural renewal of the plant that is already present. that the wood used in the board is a spike that ripens and falls.
And speaking of performance in the water, the lightness of agave gives the boards an agility, while its flexibility provides a response in the waves.
